EVENT IS POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER
Because another blast of wintry weather is forecast to hit the Triangle on Friday, the Big Three Legends Game, scheduled for The Cage on the American Tobacco Campus, is being postponed until April 19th. At that time the charity fund-raising event will go on with its full program. Basketball legends Christian Laettner, Vinny Del Negro and Kenny Smith will coach teams of former Duke, NC State and UNC stars in preliminary shooting and skills competitions, and the main event, the 3-on-3 Legends Game.
“Concern for player safety and the safety and comfort of our fans dictated this decision,” said Eric Quimby, spokesperson for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC). Although The Cage is covered, it is essentially an outdoor court managed by the Downtown Durham YMCA. Players and fans would be exposed to the elements, which are forecast Friday to include possible sleet, rain and temperatures in the low 30’s.
“When we consulted with our partners, including the Downtown Durham Y and American Tobacco, we all arrived at the same conclusion - that delaying the game is our only option.”
Those holding tickets, including passes to the VIP post-game meet-and-greet, will have their tickets honored on April 19th. For any questions regarding tickets already purchased, or to buy tickets for the re-scheduled event, email Dustin.Kilpatrick@bcbsnc.com or visit LiveFearlessNC.com/Big3.
All proceeds from the Big Three Legends Game will benefit Duke Children’s Hospital, the V Foundation for Cancer Research, and the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. BCBSNC has already committed to donate $32,500 to the three charities as part of the Big Three 3-Point Challenge.
The Legends Game is the grand finale of this fund-raising effort that lasted the entire ACC season. Find out more at LiveFearlessNC.com/Big3.
